My first blog post, ever

Well, this is it. After years of avoiding the blogosphere, thinking it was the the domain of those who felt like they actually had something to say (Dean among them), I am taking my first hesitant steps into this unchartered territory. Yes, I am blogging. At this juncture, I can't help but think of Julie, from that delicious movie Julie & Julia, who tentatively enters the blogging world to chronicle her adventures with Julia Child and gourmet French food.

However, as much as I love cooking (and eating) this blog, alas, is not centered on food, although I am sure that food will become a prominent character in many posts (as well as the blog title!). The food will not be French, it will be Korean, and I will not be writing from a tiny apartment in NYC, but from a shared house in Daejon, South Korea.

In a month and a half, I will embark on a year stint with the PC(USA) Young Adult Volunteers. I will be staying with two other lovely ladies near/on the Hanaan University campus under the care of Simon and Haejung Park, our program directors. This blog will serve as the travel guide for my adventures--learning the language, navigating the city, finding my place as a volunteer, growing in ministry, and, quite obviously, sampling the cuisine (Korean: food = sikpum).

So, carpe diem, onward and upward, here we go...

  1. I hope you are more like the Julia from the book and not the emotional wreck Julia from the movie.
